How long does a divorce take?

In an agreed divorce, Tennessee state law requires the divorce to be filed in the court clerk's office for at least sixty (60) days before the divorce can be granted, if there are no minor children involved.  If there are any minor children involved, then the divorce has to be filed in the court clerk's office for at least ninety (90) days before the divorce can be granted.  Agreed divorces can be finished soon after this time period is up.  The time period to complete a contested divorce varies widely, mainly depending on what issues the parties cannot agree upon.
